Two Londoners face charges after police say they arrested two suspects driving a stolen U-Haul full of stolen goods and then later arrested the same pair shortly after they were released from custody.

Police responded to a trespassing call on June 12 at the Walmart on Carroll Street East in Strathroy, where they found two people in a U-Haul that had been reported stolen and fled from London police earlier in the day, Strathroy-Caradoc police said.

Officers found merchandise that had been stolen from a Shoppers Drug Mart in Stratford inside the truck, police said.

A London man, 32, and woman, 30, are charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The woman was additionally charged with failure to comply with an undertaking. Both were released from custody on an undertaking, a document created by either a court or police that places the charged person under certain conditions.

Shortly after the pair was released, the woman was arrested after a female suspect stole a hockey bag from a sports store on Front Street, and the man was arrested after a male suspect was caught breaking into a vehicle, Strathroy police said.

The pair was additionally charged with another count of theft under $5,000 and were held in custody awaiting bail hearings.

Fire damages several school buses at Essex yard

A number of school buses were damaged by fire Wednesday night at a storage yard in the Windsor-area community of Essex.

Lakeshore Fire Services crews responded to the blaze at around 8 p.m., along with Essex Fire and Rescue Services crews who where called in to assist.

Thursday morning, a handful of heavily damaged yellow school buses could be seen at the Sharp Bus Lines yard in the 300 block of Maidstone Avenue East near Naylor Sideroad.

No damage estimate or cause of the fire was available as of Thursday. No injuries have been reported.
